After Braces

Retainers

Following the completion of treatment. Upper and lower retainers are usually issued. These are used to ensure that your teeth don’t relapse or ‘go back’ to how they used to look.

Often the bonded retainer consists of a small wire bonded to the inside of the upper and lower teeth, this is fixed to the teeth and will stay in place as part of long term retention.

We also issue removable upper and lower retainers that are worn full time for four weeks before being worn nightly for 6 months, reducing to 2-3 nights each week after 12 months. In some cases an acrylic retainer is used.

The retention period after treatment is as important as the active treatment phase. Without retainers it would be impossible to keep your teeth in their final positions.
